Records Fall in South Carolina

 

State Meet Highlights

 

- Wando High School broke the long standing meet record in the Girls 4x100 Meter Relay, getting the baton around the oval in the 4A race in 46.33. The old record belonged to Eau Claire, set in 1982 in 46.8h.

 

- Senior Laurie Barton of Daniel shattered the meet record in the Girls 3A 800, winning by 10 seconds in 2:09.34 over her 7th grade teammate, Ally Wilson. Barton also ran legs on runner-up 4x800 and 4x400 Relays.

 
Darrell Singleton of West Ashley chopped .01 seconds off the meet record in his 21.15 win in the 4A 200.

 

- Sophomore Imagine Patterson from Summerville set a new meet record in the 4A 400 Meter Hurdles in 1:00.46. She also ran legs on runner-up 4x100 (47.40) and 4x400 (3:55.57) relays and finished 8th in the 100 (12.50).

 

- Sophomore Zeniyah Lawrence of Wando was likely the athlete of the meet, winning the 100 (11.65 US #20), 200 (23.91), Long Jump (18-11) and competing on that record setting 4x100 Relay.

 

The Ridge View duo of senior Arlicia Bush and sophomore Johnaida Eliscar completed a 1-2 sweep in the 4A 400, running 54.99 and 56.68 respectively, and led their team to a win in the 4x400 Meter Relay in 3:50.09.

 

Jackson Junkins of Waccamaw, a sophomore, won the 2A 400 (47.32) and 200 (21.21). Waccamaw were runners-up in the boys team title rave with 38 points.

 

Hilary Harris, a senior from JL Mann, won the 4A Discus (146-3) and finished second in the Shot Put (41-4.5).

 
- Junior 
Carisma Holland, of Seneca, won the 3A Discus (132-6) and Shot Put (45-0).

 
Van Perry of Rock Hill cleared 15-00 in the 4A Pole Vault

 
Rebekah Smith of Dutch Fork was unable to repeat as 4A 100 Meter Champion, finishing second in 11.68 (US #28), but she added a win in the Triple Jump with a leap of 39-4. She was also runner-up in the 200 (24.24).

 
Neil Blanken of Bluffton won the 4A Discus in 174-0 and finished second in the Shot Put (53-3.5).


Andre Wright of Seneca won the 3A Triple Jump with a mark of 49-1. He also finished 5th in the Long Jump (22-6).

 
- Senior 
Desmond Frankie Thomas of Mauldin won the 4A High Jump with a leap of 6-10. That puts him in a tie for US #20.


Kamiya Dendy, an 8th Grader from TL Hanna, won the 4A High Jump with a leap of 5-8. She is ranked in a tie for US #4 for an early season clearance at 5-9.

 

- Riverside dominated the 4A Girls distance races , winning the 4x800 (9:28.50), placing 1-5-7 in the 1600, 4-5 in the 800 and 1-2-4-6 in the 3200. Junior Cate Ambrose led the way with wins in the 1600 (5:02.93) and 3200 (11:37.68) while also anchoring the 4x800.

 

Top Teams:


Wando broke JL Mann's win streak as the girls 4A champions with 76.33 points. JL Mann still finished a close second with 73 points. Dutch Fork won the boys 4A title with 43 points.
